The current economic globalization is full of uncertainties, and the "bottleneck" problem of science and technology brought by anti-globalization has become the most urgent problem to be solved by innovative research. But at this stage, the latest innovation research, national/regional innovation system research, is confined to evolutionary theory angle of view and it is difficult to solve the problem of globalization of science and technology innovation. Therefore, based on the theoretical framework of global production networks and its core element strategic coupling, this research will identify the theoretical difference between regional innovation system and global production network, and will also propose an analytical framework of the development of regional innovation system. Choosing the regional innovation system in 21 cities in Guangdong province as an example and based on theoretical analysis and regression analysis, this paper explores the relationship and influence between regional innovation system and strategic coupling from three aspects of innovation infrastructure, innovation activities and innovation performance. The main findings of this study are as follows: First, strategic coupling has a significant impact on regional innovation systems, and the impact is not entirely significant positive, or even negative. Secondly, export-oriented dependency coupling mainly promotes regional innovation infrastructure and restrains regional innovation performance and activities. In contrast, the reciprocal coupling of market for technology has a better promoting effect on all dimensions of regional innovation system. Third, for Guangdong province, the impact of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan investment on the regional innovation system is much greater than that of general foreign investment, while the specific impact of general foreign investment on the innovation system is more complex without stable pattern. By introducing the perspective of global production network into the research of regional innovation system and using the theory of strategic coupling, this study explored the relationship and influence between strategic coupling and regional innovation system, established the analysis framework of regional innovation system under globalization, and further revealed the complex role of global production network on regional innovation system. It provides a more critical and dialectical perspective for the research of regional innovation system under globalization as well as rational and scientific suggestions for the construction of regional innovation system.
