The case of the Indian subcontinent (India indeed is a continent, rather than just a country, in sociological and political terms) is being put forward by Christian Aspalter. This time he focuses on health outcomes from a comparative international perspective. After again providing a full-fledged insight into the “wonderfully” complex world of Indian social policy making and the highest levels of regional, sectoral, and program-based institutional fragmentation, this chapter takes on a quantitative-data-based comparative approach in evaluating the Indian welfare state system, and in prescribing recommendations for solving the main systemically-caused problems, seen from an Asian perspective and from the perspective of the normative theory of Developmental Social Policy.
