摘要	This text examines the question to what extent the regressive structural transformations observed during the Corona pandemic call into question the social order of functional differentiation realized worldwide. The continued dominance of two functional systems—the health system and the political system—is explained by the form of the crisis. Crises allow a dimming down of the global division of labor—a temporary ‘differentiation lockdown’. The permanence of these structural transformations feared by many observers has not yet materialized. Already, there are signs of a return to old routines and habits around the world, suggesting that nothing has changed in society’s mode of operation. Moreover, regressions are the evolutionary normal case and individual subsections of society (e.g., families and states) have always been engaged in such reconstructions. However, further such crises are to be feared since the global infrastructure made the pandemic possible in the first place and deglobalization—in the sense of a reversal of world-society—cannot be implemented. Individual efforts of ‘renationalization’ based on ideological arguments can be observed but would be associated with high political and economic costs for all involved. The fear that the Corona crisis would endanger the cohesion of society is unfounded because it is not held together by a basic consensus of shared values but reproduces itself through communicative connections that transform possibilities into realities.
