The shift from production-based to knowledge-based economy, government encouragement, implementation and rapid growth of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and the pressure to achieve business targets highlights the needs for a better understanding of knowledge manipulation skills (KMSkills) a key requirement for competitive advantage (CA) across businesses. There are, however, limited number of studies conducted on this subject, particularly on the link between KMSkills and CA in Malaysia, which could provide a framework for Malaysian companies to ultilize this knowledge in their businesses. This paper discusses aspects of a research being carried out on MSC Malaysia companies to establish strong relationships between KMSkills and CA through developing a KM model that will bridge both the practical and theoretical knowledge gaps. With the findings, we hope to provide a useful framework for MSC Malaysia companies to address and mitigate key problems associated with implementing these concepts and capitalizing on knowledge for competitive advantage.
