Abstract | This chapter turns to conspiracy theories to observe the pandemic of COVID-19. In the chapter, the authors present and debunk three conspiracy theories. The first conspiracy theory saw the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in China as China's Chernobyl. The second conspiracy theory was mobilized by the radical leftists in the United States to topple down the Trump presidency. The third conspiracy theory analysed China's power crunch of September 2021 as China's smart move to shift inflation back to the United States. By debunking the three conspiracy theories, this chapter has proved that the pandemic could not be mobilized as any party's opportunity, be they Western dragon slayers, United States radical leftists, and Chinese hypernationalistists. Mobilizing the pandemic narrative for a "I win, you lose" game will only be backfired. |
