Abstract | The concept of objective transfer function matrix is proposed. It is used to represent the desired performance specifications of a multivariable control system. By the technique of parameter optimization a simple frequency response method for the design of multivariable PID controllers is developed. In all designed systems, its closed-loop frequency responses are almost identical with those of objective transfer function matrix, and its outputs exhibit satisfactory transient performances with no offsets at steady-state. This method has been applied to the design of basis weight and moisture content control system for a paper machine. The designed system has been running satisfactorily in production for more than a year. |
