Abstract

This study examines how leader's humor behavior affects the performance of the leadership, by researching the effect of leader's humor behavior on employee's positive and negative emotions with the moderating effect of leader-follower distance considered. In particular, we pay attention to the power distance which is considered as one of the important constructs of leader-follower distance. The results on the 189 questionnaire responses surveyed during two weeks from October 17, 2010 provide support for the idea that leader's humor behavior increase the positive emotions of the members of the organization while decreasing the negative emotions of them. Far from the expectation, some interesting results on the moderating effect of power distance is found. That is, the higher leader-follower distance is, the more the leader's humor behavior weakens the effect on employee's positive emotions.
