Abstract

Hong Kong is the media center for international news organization. There are a high number of foreign news workers sent by the home parent company as the bureau chief of Hong Kong Unit office. Since most locally hired staff have little or no connection with real working culture of the parent company, the bureau chief therefore becomes the agent of parent company to form the psychological contract with local employee. However, given that the bureau chief performs every function on the daily management/job evaluation/employment contract draft/creation of office culture. The local staff becomes attached to the personal favor of bureau chief who exercises the formation of intrinsic values and extrinsic values over the formation of psychological contract. However, since the bureau chief power is basically unchecked, he/she is able to have complete discretion to exercise whatever management style. This study will look at abusive supervision of middle management over the destruction of intrinsic values between employee and organization. In addition, it will give recommendation and conclusion of finding the balance of intrinsic value and extrinsic value over the formation of psychological contract on Hong Kong Media Industry.
