Population geography grew as a subdiscipline of human geography to describe, analyze, and reflect upon the geographical organization of human populations. Contributing research on migration, population/environment/development links and transition theory, the growth of multidisciplinary approaches reflect broader interests in social difference, lifecourse, and population issues under a neoliberal and restructuring capitalist global system. Emerging discussions of transdisciplinarity may connect scholars inspired to research the interdependencies of societies' demographic, spatial, and political organization, and reinvigorate a heritage of service and interest in social justice. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
