Abstract | This concluding chapter looks at and takes on the future of social policy and at the same time, the future of humanity, its decency, and quality. Old ways of social policy need to be urgently complemented with and upgraded to new ways, and these new ways are pragmatic ways, realistic ways, and fully financially and politically feasible ways. This chapter picks out some of those and explains them further. It also explains the fatal connection between the fates (developments) of welfare state systems in the years and decades ahead and the human condition, which is facing and continuously worsened by a multitude of major systemic threats, such as hyper inequality, human-work-replacing technologies, plunging societal fertility, the new normal of extreme weather phenomena and changing/changed climate conditions, and so forth. |
