Abstract

Research about "Transformation Rice to Palm Oil in Desa Nehas Liah Bing, Kecamatan Muara Wahau, Kabupaten Kutai Timur" was conducted with a focus on power strategies that changed the paradigm of community mindset from subsistence to capitalist. Interestingly, this research is in the form of hegemony, resistance and adaptation of society to the transformation that occurs. This study aims to determine (1) the process of cropping patterns transformation from rice to palm oil in Desa Nehas Liah Bing, (2) what factors cause cropping patterns transformation from rice to palm oil in Desa Nehas Liah Bing, and (3) the implications of Pattern Change Planting Rice Becomes Oil Palm on ecology, socio-economic, and social culture, in Desa Nehas Liah Bing. This research is located in Desa Nehas Liah Bing, Kecamatan Muara Wahau, Kabupaten Kutai Timur, which was designed using a qualitative paradigm, with a cultural study approach. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively, through three stages, which is data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The source of this research is the combination of primary and secondary data. The main theory in this study is Hegemony, and will be assisted by Generative Structuration. This research found that in 1982 the process of oil palm plantation began in Kalimantan Timur, and specifically in Desa Nehas Liah Bing around 1996-2006, was carried out by the government and palm oil companies through hegemony. According to statistical data, in 2019 about 1,200 hectares of 1,758 hectares of community land have been converted to oil palm plantations. There are three underlying factors, First economics and ecology as infrastructure, Second social stratification as a structure, and Third general ideology as a superstructure. The transformation of the community directly has implications for environmental damage, cropping patterns changes from horticulture to monoculture, and the dim of local wisdom.
